Scene 1: Tybalt confronts Romeo, who refuses to fight (secretly now his kinsman by marriage). Mercutio, offended on Romeo’s behalf, fights Tybalt instead and is fatally wounded when Romeo tries to intervene. Enraged, Romeo kills Tybalt and is banished from Verona by the Prince.
Scene 2: Juliet learns of Tybalt’s death and Romeo’s banishment, torn between grief for her cousin and love for her husband.
Scene 3: Friar Laurence persuades a despairing Romeo to accept banishment rather than death, promising to arrange a future reunion with Juliet.
Scene 4–5: Capulet, unaware of the secret marriage, arranges for Juliet to marry Paris in three days. Romeo and Juliet spend one night together before he leaves for Mantua. Juliet refuses her father’s marriage plan, causing a serious rift with her parents.
